All aboard! A new ship sets sail on S4C as the MV Balmoral takes to the waves, playing host to a new Noson Lawen-style series, Hwylio'r Noson Lawen. The ship will dock at various venues around the Welsh coast bringing with it music and entertainment from some of Wales' best-loved artists.
The cruise begins on Saturday, 4 October in the 2008 European Capital of Culture, Liverpool, and will also visit Menai Bridge, Caernarfon, Swansea and Barry during the series.
"There'll be a totally different feel to these programmes to previous Noson Lawen series," says producer Hefin Elis. "There was a rural flavour to those programmes, but this series brings with it a breath of sea air, taking in the unique location and the stunning coastal views."
There'll be plenty of laughs on board, with Captain Morgan (Dilwyn Morgan) and his disorderly crew – Idwal the odd job man (Ifan Gruffydd), Mrs O.T Tomos the entertainments' officer (Gillian Elisa), Dr An Gau the doctor (Lisa Jên Brown), Raymond Hughes the chef (Eilir Jones), T. Total Tomos the barman (John Ogwen) and Deio Gelwch (David Oliver) the health and safety officer – looking after guests.
Dafydd Iwan, Siân James, Parti Cut Lloi, Daniel Lloyd a Mr Pinc and Enfys are among the artists appearing in the first programme.
"There'll be a variety of material in each programme – items performed on deck with views of the area as backdrop as well as music and comedy from the bar downstairs. There'll also be chance to meet the madcap crew in a series of short sketches," explains Hefin.
During the six-part series there will be performances by Bryn Fôn, Elin Fflur, Catrin Finch, Gwibdaith Hen Fran, Heather Jones, Meinir Gwilym, Geraint Lovgreen, Tebot Piws, Meic Stevens, Huw Chiswell and Nigel Owens and many more.
