The excitement of the Eisteddfod
S4C's focus this week will be the National Eisteddfod in Ebbw Vale as it offers a comprehensive broadcasting service from this important cultural festival. There will be live broadcasts during the day on S4C and S4c2, and a highlights programme each evening on S4C.
During the day, the presenters are Huw Llywelyn Davies, Sara Gibson, Mari Lovgreen and Morgan Jones. The evening highlights programmes will be presented by Rhun ap Iorwerth, with Jason Mohammad also contributing items.
"Our programmes will celebrate the Welshness of the area of this year's Eisteddfod, Blaenau Gwent and the Heads of the Valleys (Blaenau'r Cymoedd)," says Ynyr Williams, Senior Producer with BBC Cymru which will be providing S4C's programmes from the Eisteddfod.
"It's an area which has contributed much to our culture, from old folk songs to the first Welsh learner to win the Chair at the National Eisteddfod, Robat Powel."
Sara Gibson says she is looking forward to this year's Eisteddfod as she will be returning to work after maternity leave. "It's been enjoyable, being at home with my daughters, Mari and Gwen. But I'm looking forward to broadcasting from Ebbw Vale, there's so much enthusiasm in the area.
"I was filming there the other day, and it was great to see flags flying everywhere. There's a clock tower in the centre of Tredegar, and there were flags there extending out from the tower onto the adjoining buildings. It's created a carnival atmosphere, and the local organisers have ensured that the people of the area know about the Eisteddfod. There's great excitement in the air."
