<title>Celtic Media Festival - a new initiative for Independent Production Companies</title>
<link>/production/rm/news_view/newsid/829/language/eng/</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Announcement by the Celtic Media Festival:
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Over 24 - 26 April, some of the biggest names in the broadcasting and film world will descend on Swansea for the Celtic Media Festival 2013. The 3-day festival will feature a packed programme of events and talks by some of the leading names in media, and today organisers have unveiled details of a brand new initiative designed to provide industry guidance to independent production companies - The Clinic.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Sponsored by MEDIA Antennae Galway, Scotland and Wales, The Clinic will offer indie film makers and producers a rare opportunity to meet with commissioners and channel heads from the Celtic nations and regions to discuss ideas and obtain their feedback as they seek to develop new projects. For the first time in its 34-year history, the Celtic Media Festival will be offering film makers and producers the chance to sign up for one to one sessions with commissioners, creating the invaluable opportunity for them to meet with the brightest and best from the major broadcasters and funders from the Celtic nations and regions, and benefit from their advice.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The following broadcasters and funders will participate in The Clinic, and offer their advice to indie production companies: Northern Ireland Screen&#x27;s Irish Language Broadcast Fund and Ulster Scots Broadcast Fund; RT&#xC9; Television and Radio; TG4; BBC Wales; S4C; BBC Scotland; BBC ALBA; BBC Southwest and BBC Northern Ireland.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Judy Wasdell, manager of Media Antenna Wales said: &#x22;MEDIA Antennae Galway, Scotland and Wales are delighted to support the Celtic Media Festival in 2013.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;We are particularly excited to be involved with the The Clinic since we recognise the importance of producers obtaining valuable feedback from broadcasters and funders on their projects early on.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Representatives from MEDIA Antennae Galway, Scotland and Wales will be on hand during the Festival to answer queries on the MEDIA Programme and how it may support your company.&#x22;
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Domhnall Caimbeul, Chairman of the Celtic Media Festival, said: &#x22;As we enter into our 34th year, we remain committed to promoting the unique languages and cultures of the Celtic nations and to championing and fostering excellence on screen and in broadcasting. We&#x27;re extremely proud to announce our brand new initiative The Clinic, which very much embodies this ethos and which we hope will be a source of inspiration and a valuable opportunity for independent production companies and film-makers.&#x22;
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Earlier this month, the Celtic Media Festival announced that over 100 productions from more than 60 production companies and broadcasters have been shortlisted for the prestigious Bronze Torc Awards, which celebrate the finest films, TV and radio productions, and digital media to emerge from the Celtic nations and regions over the past year, and which will be presented at this year&#x27;s festival. Shortlisted entries include Sport Wales: A Tribute to Gary Speed, BBC Wales Sport&#x27;s moving tribute to the former player and Wales manager. BBC Northern Ireland&#x27;s documentary This World: Shame of the Catholic Church is nominated in the Current Affairs category for its investigation into child abuse claims.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;News International&#x27;s Director of Communications (and former Communications Director for Boris Johnson) Guto Harri is the first name to be confirmed for the 2013 festival programme. He&#x27;ll speak about his career in media and shaping media at this year&#x27;s festival, with further details on the Celtic Media Festival 2013 programme (as well as full details of the commissioners and channel heads representing the broadcasters and funders participating in The Clinic) due to be unveiled later in the month.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Delegate registration for Celtic Media Festival 2013 is now open. To register as a delegate and for further information on the history of the festival and the shortlist for the Bronze Torc Awards, please visit: &#x3C;a href=&#x22;http://www.celticmediafestival.co.uk/&#x22;&#x3E;www.celticmediafestival.co.uk&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;***
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Dear co-worker,
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;In April, we will be making changes to the broadcasting schedule with several programmes moving to new time slots.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;One of the changes is that our main news programme, Newyddion, will move from 7.30pm to 9.00pm on Monday to Friday nights.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Rownd a Rownd is to be moved to the centre of the schedule, moving from its current early evening slot at 6.10pm to the later time of 7.30pm.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Also Heno will extend to an hour long programme on Monday and Fridays, but will remain in the 7.00pm slot.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;We are making these changes in response to our audience&#x27;s wishes and are putting their needs first.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Moving Newyddion to a later slot is a chance to re-locate the news and create a comprehensive, up to the minute service which is relevant for that time of night with news from Wales and the world.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;It also gives us more flexibility when planning the schedule for weekday evenings. I&#x27;m confident that moving Rownd a Rownd to a later time will prove popular and will introduce the series to a wider audience.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;I&#x27;m also pleased that we are able to offer Heno a one hour long slot on Monday and Friday nights, allowing more coverage to events in communities across Wales.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Further details about the schedule changes are to be finalised and announced before April.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>BBC CYMRU WALES AND S4C RENEW STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT</title>
<link>/production/rm/news_view/newsid/821/language/eng/</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;BBC Cymru Wales and S4C have reached agreement on a renewed partnership which will safeguard current levels of investment in programmes for S4C for the next four years.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The agreement, which guarantees the statutory minimum 520 hours of programming supplied to S4C each year by BBC Cymru Wales, has been signed off by the S4C Authority and the BBC Trust and welcomed by both broadcasters. It maintains the level of BBC Cymru Wales&#x27; investment in original Welsh language television programming produced free of charge for S4C. Both organisations are also collaborating on a number of recently announced creative projects.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Under the partnership, high quality, popular programmes including Pobol y Cwm, Y Clwb Rygbi, coverage of the Eisteddfod Genedlaethol and news and current affairs coverage, including the daily news service Newyddion, will remain at the heart of S4C&#x27;s schedule.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The renewed strategic partnership is the third of its kind to date and will run until 2016/17.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;BBC Cymru Wales Director Rhodri Talfan Davies said:
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x22;This renewed partnership underlines BBC Cymru Wales&#x27; commitment to Welsh language broadcasting. Crucially, we have made sure that - despite a challenging financial climate - our level of investment in popular Welsh language television programming supplied to S4C will be safeguarded for the next four years. Our partnership continues to strengthen as we look forward to even more creative collaboration ahead.&#x22;
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;S4C Chief Executive Ian Jones said:
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x22;S4C is looking forward to continuing to work closely with the BBC on a wide range of programming and services with the renewal of our partnership agreement. We welcome the BBC&#x27;s commitment to maintaining the programme expenditure for the ten hours per week the corporation provides for us. It will ensure that their top quality programming remains a cornerstone of our service.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x22;The partnership agreement has enabled both broadcasters to share talents and resources to create exciting, innovative programming and we aim to continue with this creative partnership to secure the best possible service for our audiences.&#x22;
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

&#x3C;p&#x3E;Ends
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;Notes to Editors
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;This third strategic partnership agreement will run from 2013/14 through to 2016/17. Previous strategic partnerships were agreed in 2006 and 2010. The Strategic Partnership underpins the financial value and accountability arrangements of the programmes supplied by BBC Cymru Wales to S4C.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The long-standing partnership is entirely separate from the Operating Agreement between the broadcasters. The Operating Agreement sets out the financial and accountability arrangements for the Licence Fee funding provided by the BBC Trust to S4C from April 2013 onwards. The new funding arrangement formed part of the latest Licence Fee settlement introduced by the UK Government&#x27;s Spending Review in October 2010. Under the terms of the Operating Agreement, S4C will directly receive &#x26;pound;76.4 million per annum in 2013/2014 from the BBC Trust. This separate agreement runs until 2016/2017.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The creative collaboration between S4C and BBC Cymru Wales includes recently announced projects such as new comedy Portars with BBC Radio Cymru and an innovative digital cross-media project for Pobol y Cwm.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;

<title>S4C Policy for the Protection of Children and other Vulnerable People</title>
<link>/production/rm/news_view/newsid/819/language/eng/</link>
<description>&#x3C;p&#x3E;Following the recent public scrutiny of child protection within the media industry, S4C wishes to ensure anew that there is full awareness within the sector of the Channel&#x27;s policies and procedures in regard to safeguarding children.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The Channel is committed to ensuring that the rights and welfare of children who contribute to S4C programmes are protected at all times, that children feel free to share any concerns they have and that their concerns are taken seriously and reported to the appropriate authorities.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;S4C would like therefore to draw the attention of production companies to S4C&#x27;s Policy for the Protection of Children and Other Vulnerable People which can be found on S4C&#x27;s Production site. Companies are requested to remind their relevant staff and workers of the contents of the Policy and to ensure that their working practices comply with the requirements of the Policy, as well as the laws and government guidelines relating to children.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;The Policy is being updated following recent changes in the legislation and S4C&#x27;s structure. However, in the meantime, companies are required to continue to comply with the existing policy.
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
&#x3C;p&#x3E;If you have any comments or questions regarding this matter, you are welcome to contact S4C&#x27;s Legal Department (contact: &#x3C;a href=&#x22;mailto:sarah.jenkins@s4c.co.uk&#x22;&#x3E;sarah.jenkins@s4c.co.uk&#x3C;/a&#x3E;).
&#x3C;/p&#x3E;
