Anderlecht of Belgium await The New Saints in the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League should they manage to beat Bohemians.

The Welsh champions lost 1-0 in Dublin on Tuesday night, but with the added incentive of facing one of European football’s historic clubs, the Saints will be looking forward to welcoming Bohs to Park Hall next Tuesday.

Anderlecht have won the Belgian championship on 30 occasions and have tasted success in Europe.

With stars such as Rob Rensenbrink and Arie Haan in their side, Anderlecht beat Wrexham in the last eight of the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1976 before beating West Ham in the final.

They lifted the same trophy two year’s later thrashing Austria Vienna in the final and in 1983 they defeated Benfica to lif the Uefa Cup.

The Saints’ record in Europe, however, is very different. In 11 seasons of European competition the club has never managed to progress to the next round of any competition.
