The New Saints will face Irish champions, Bohemians, in the second qualifying round of the Champions League.

The New Saints chief operating officer, Ian Williams, who was present at the draw at Uefa headquarters in Nyon on Monday was more than happy with the outcome.

"I’m very pleased," Williams told Sgorio. "Going into the draw Bohemians were certainly one of the teams we were looking at as a good draw for us.

"It’s very good logistically with regards to travelling and so on, but we also feel we have a fighting chance.

"We’re expecting quite a few supporters to make the trip over to Park Hall and hopefully playing the Irish champions will generate quite a bit of local interest too."

Bohemians, who play their home games at Dallymount Park, Dublin, have faced Welsh opposition relatively recently thrashing Rhyl 9-3 over two legs in the 2008/09 Intertoto Cup.

And they are no starngers to European competition having played 58 matches since their first European appearance in the European Cup Winners Cup in 1970.

In last season’s Champions League second qualifying round, Bohs secured a hard fought 1-1 draw against Red Bull Salzburg in Austria before losing to a very late goal in the second leg in Dublin.

The New Saints have lined up two friendlies with Northern Irish opposition in preparation for their European ties.

The Welsh champions travel to take on Glentoran on Saturday 26 June before returning to Belfast to face Northen Irish champions, Linfield on Saturday 3 July.
