Meilyr Powel has the chance to add another ground to his 92 Club list!

One good thing about Sgorio and the FA Cup is that you have no idea which ground we will visit as the Welsh clubs go through the competition.

Already this season Sgorio has shown a live match from the Abbey Stadium as Wrexham took on Cambridge in the First Round.

In the Third Round, as our programme came live from Prestatyn, our reporters were spread out accross the football grounds of England.

Gary Pritchard was at the Amex Stadium watching Brighton v Wrexham, Mike Davies was watching West Brom v Cardiff at the Hawthorns and Bryn Tomos was reporting from Oakwell where the Swans were playing Barnsley.

And we all had a trip to the Racecourse as Sgorio broadcast Wrexham’s third round replay with Brighton live on S4C.

After the names came out of the hat for the fourth round it was time to plan for a trip to the Reebok Stadium as Swansea came out to face Bolton Wanderers.

The plan was for Bryn Tomos to give updates from the game into the Sgorio programme which was coming live from Rhyl v Llanelli in the Welsh Cup Fourth Round.

I was meeting up with Bryn at the Reebok Stadium along with our cameraman, sound engineer and the all important satellite engineer, Llion, who would be responsible for sending the pictures back to Rhyl.

For someone like me who gets lost between Aberystwyth and Bala, the most important piece of kit was the trusty SatNav!

So, BL6 6JW here we come!

Having met up with the crew we needed to carry all the kit up to the tv gantry.

However, in complete contrast to the Welsh Premier League where I’ve carried my fair share of equipment up ladders, there was a lift at the Reebok – a lift with a carpet!

We were in the Gods with a perfect view of the pitch. Almost as good as the old Farrar Road gantry at Bangor!

Having filmed the Swansea team arriving and sent the pictures back to Rhyl it was time for Bryn to take his place on the gantry.

Unfortunately for me, as a Swans fan, I wasn’t going to watch the game from the stadium but from the satellite truck outside on a monitor the size of an A5 piece of paper!

Every now and then – and after every goal – Bryn would hear from the producer in Rhyl and give a report from our match.

That was the easy bit, if you ask me!

Bolton won 2-1 and despite the final whistle being blown, it felt like our work was only just beginning.

We needed to interview both managers and a few players to get their reaction to the match to show on our programme coming from Rhyl.

It was a bit of a race against time but we managed to get reaction from Joe Allen, Brendan Rodgers and Owen Coyle.

After each interview I had to run to the satellite truck to pump the pictures to another truck in Rhyl.

And with the game at the Belle Vue going to extra time and penalties you can imagine it was quite hectic over there!

The interviews were cut by Gary Pritchard in Rhyl before being shown at the end of Sgorio, but our work in Bolton wasn’t finished!

I then had to choose the incidents I deemed good enough to send via satellite to ITV for their highlights programme.

Finally … 10 hours after reaching the stadium, it was time to go home … with a sack full of tapes and with another stadium crossed off my list!
